Are they safe?

Interac Email Money Transfers are a simple, convenient, and secure way to send and receive money directly from one bank account to another. All you need is access to online banking through a participating financial institution, and you can send money to anyone with an email address and a bank account in Canada — without sharing any personal or financial information. It's a great alternative to cheques and cash.

How your Interac Email Money Transfer is protected

With Interac Email Money Transfers, your money never actually travels by email. Email is only used to notify the recipient and to provide them with instructions on how to deposit money. Your financial institution and your recipient’s financial institution transfer funds using established and secure banking procedures.

Interac Email Money Transfers rely on several security measures
•Encryption technology
•Confidential user IDs and passwords issued by financial institutions
•A secure login process
•A security question and answer to ensure only the intended recipient receives the money
•128-bit browser encryption

How do they work

We do not include utilities in our rental prices for many reasons. The first is that if we include utilities, people (I am not saying you, but people in general, even I do this as well) tend to leave the lights on, take longer showers, and keep the heat on during the day when no one is home. Lets face it, with 6 billion people on the planet, it just isn't good for us or for the earth.

By not including utilities, I can keep the cost of rent as low as possible and those who conserve the most, save the most, sounds fair to me! :)

For new tenants, we prefer not to accept cheques, cheques can bounce. We prefer interact money transfers (available through RBC, CIBC, Scotia, TD, BMO as part of your online banking, this way, you will get a receipt automatically emailed to you once we cash it).Once we get to know you, cheques are fine!

The benefits of Interac Email Money Transfer
  • Send and receive money directly from and to your existing bank account
  • The money can be accessed immediately after the transfer is accepted
  • There's no need to share personal or financial information, allowing you to keep your address, phone number and account information private
  • The security question protects your transfer from being deposited by unintended recipients
  • No need to set up new accounts, user ID or passwords — you're already in online banking
  • Email carries the notification, so no need to get stamps or to find a mailbox

What does one look like?

You simply go to your online banking account with the banks noted above, and look for it under "bill payments". Please see the example below from the Royal Bank Online banking.

What infomation do you need?

You need the persons first and last name, their email address, and you need to create a question the person can answer. Please do not use "What is the address of the of the house"

Some good questions are, What is the color of the house? What is your favorite hockey team? *** Please do not use any capitalization, as the system is case sensitive!
